I Seek Refuge in the Head of a Fish (detail) watercolour painting by shamanic artist Nicky Perryman

Petitioning the Salmon for Healing

This is my latest watercolour painting titled ‘I Seek Refuge in the Head of a Fish’. The image originally appeared in my imagination as a small child sitting down, knees clasped to her chest hiding under a large fish. But I have painted her as an adult, her skin is green and speckled like the fish. The fish is a salmon, the totem of wisdom, determination and self-sacrifice. For me Salmon has a very powerful nurturing energy. I will leave it to your imagination and emotional wisdom to discern what the painting is about.
Part 2 of the series is here – where you can see the mask I made inspired by the painting.

I used Daniel Smith Watercolour paints, Liquitex gold and copper inks, Unipin and Posca pens on Sanders St Cuthbert’s Mill watercolour paper. The painting is roughly A2 size.
