Open Exhibition at the MAC

Today I submitted my offering to the Open Exhibition at the Midlands Art Centre in Birmingham (MAC). The submission process involved being filmed holding the piece of work which felt rather strange but kind of nice. There will be four curated exhibitions over the summer plus the final open exhibition at the end which will include all the submitted works. I hope I make it into one of the curated exhibitions as well as the final. I don’t think there were that many textile pieces submitted so perhaps I have a good chance!

I decided to submit my Large Poppy Group work because it’s the largest piece of work I have ready and I feel it needs showing off. Incidentally the word “poppy” in Romanian is “mac” – how appropriate!

Hey, I'm a textile artist based in the UK. I like playing around with fabric paint, stitching both hand and machine embroidery and I have far too many sequins. I'm inspired by nature, its mysteries, subtleties, delights and complexities. The outer natural world has its counterpart in the inner spiritual world and I am also inspired by folklore, poetry, fairytales, stories of long ago when the spirits of nature seemed less shy than they do today, as well as my own shamanic journeys into the dreamland.
