This is another one a companion sparrow in progress at the painting stage.

Free motion stitching created the body of the sparrow and the wing details.
I love sparrows, the sound of them chirping in garrulous clouds in bushes and thickets and under house eves. I decided I wanted to make something based on the sparrows that used to come into the garden we had when I was a child and hang on the red hot poker bush, picking at the flowers.
The background of the piece is silk dupion painted with acrylic ink. The rest of the image is free motion embroidery and some satin stitch to create the flowers and their stems and stamens and the bird’s legs.

Sparrow on Red Hot Pokers – Machine stitching on hand painted silk. 8″ square.
This embroidered wall art is for sale in my shop.
